What is keybagd on Mac?

Keybag daemon · seed · quit hint: do not quit

keybagd is a macOS process (listed here as Keybag daemon). People usually find it in Activity Monitor when asking “what is this process?”

What does keybagd do?

keybagd manages cryptographic keybags used for Data Protection (loading system/user keybags into AppleKeyStore and handling related lock-state operations). It is required for encrypted data access after unlock. Quitting can break keybag unlock/load paths—do not quit.

Is it safe to quit keybagd?

Hint: do not quit. SystemWoe Free and Pro use keep-guards so you don’t blindly kill something important — Pro adds force-terminate only with confirmation.
