What does adid do?
adid is the CoreADI daemon (launchd label com.apple.adid) that runs as the _fpsd user alongside Apple’s FairPlay DRM stack. CoreADI is part of FairPlay used by App Store and media store content protection. It starts on demand when DRM/device-identity services are needed. Quitting can break FairPlay-protected media or store content playback until relaunch.
