What is screencaptureui on Mac?
Screenshot UI · seed · quit hint: usually safe
screencaptureui is a macOS process (listed here as Screenshot UI) — also matched as com.apple.screencaptureui. People usually find it in Activity Monitor when asking “what is this process?”
What does screencaptureui do?
screencaptureui is the CoreServices daemon that presents UI for screen capture and recording—the Shift-Command-5 toolbar, floating thumbnail, and markup. macOS starts it on demand via the com.apple.screencaptureui.agent LaunchAgent when you take a screenshot or recording; do not run it by hand. You need it while capturing, annotating, or recording; quitting dismisses that UI until the next capture.
