What is promotedcontentd on Mac?
Apple advertising content daemon · seed · quit hint: usually safe
promotedcontentd is a macOS process (listed here as Apple advertising content daemon). People usually find it in Activity Monitor when asking “what is this process?”
What does promotedcontentd do?
promotedcontentd is the Apple-signed daemon at /usr/libexec/promotedcontentd that serves Apple’s own advertising platform — the promoted placements in the App Store, Apple News, and Stocks — and contacts Apple ad endpoints such as iadsdk.apple.com and device-config.pcms.apple.com. launchd runs it in the background on a normal Mac, and it sits on the sealed system volume, so third parties cannot alter it. Nothing you depend on breaks when it exits and it will relaunch; to actually reduce its work, turn off Personalized Ads under Privacy & Security instead of killing it.
Is it safe to quit promotedcontentd?
Hint: usually safe. SystemWoe Free and Pro use keep-guards so you don’t blindly kill something important — Pro adds force-terminate only with confirmation.
